The B7 Audi RS4: Four Rings, 8-Cylinders and a Lot of Laughs

The B7 Audi RS4 is a hero of the super-saloon universe, a vehicle that redefined the image of early 2000s Audi.

Produced between 2006 and 2008, the B7 RS4 was available in three body styles: Saloon, Avant, and Cabriolet. It was powered by a naturally aspirated 4.2-litre V8 engine, delivering an exhilarating 414bhp at a high-revving 7,800 rpm. Mated to Audi’s legendary Quattro all-wheel-drive system and a six-speed manual gearbox, the RS4 achieved a perfect balance of usability and spine-tingling performance.

This RS4 also marked a significant evolution for Audi’s performance division, as it moved away from turbocharging in favour of a naturally aspirated engine. The result was an engine that was lauded for its linear power delivery and intoxicating soundtrack. It was capable of sprinting from 0-60 mph in just 4.8 seconds and reaching an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph. The car also featured Audi’s Dynamic Ride Control (DRC), which significantly improved handling by minimising body roll without compromising ride quality.

The RS4’s reputation as a true driver’s car was solidified by its sole transmission option: a six-speed manual. A Sport button further enhanced the experience, delivering sharper throttle response and activating bypass valves in the exhaust, uncorking a ferocious symphony of combustion from that gorgeous naturally aspirated V8.

Among the most exclusive of the RS4 range is the Cabriolet version, with fewer than 1,000 units produced worldwide. Retaining the same high-performance underpinnings as its Saloon and Avant siblings, the Cabriolet added an extra layer of desirability, offering the thrill of open-air motoring alongside RS4-level performance.

The RS4 Cabriolet featured a fully electric roof mechanism, enabling it to transform into an open-top cruiser at the press of a button. With the roof down, drivers could enjoy the full symphony of the V8 engine, amplified by the open cabin. Despite being a convertible, Audi maintained a focus on structural rigidity, ensuring that the Cabriolet performed on par with the other variants.

The 2007 Audi RS4 Cabriolet on offer in this upcoming Carhuna auction is a prime example of this rare model. Presented in Suzuka Grey with a black fabric roof and black leather interior, it embodies understated elegance with a performance edge. This example has covered just 56,000 miles from new, backed by a comprehensive service history that showcases meticulous care. Equipped with front and rear parking sensors, electronically adjustable and heated front seats, carbon fibre inlays, and Bose surround sound system, this RS4 Cabriolet is as luxurious as it is capable.

The Carhuna auction goes live on December 4th and concludes on December 11th. Whether you’re an Audi enthusiast or a collector looking for an increasingly rare modern classic, this RS4 Cabriolet presents a unique opportunity to own a piece of Audi’s high-performance legacy. Don’t miss out!
