The "Two Car Conundrum" Event at Carhuna Clubhouse
On an early November Saturday, we posed a question against the backdrop of steaming coffee and classic steel: What makes the ideal two-car garage?
There's a saying that fits: "There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing." With this in mind, we welcomed the mobile café prowess of Espresso Vibes, hoping the forecast would hold just long enough for an insightful event at the Carhuna Clubhouse.
Our concerns about the weather were unfounded, as 'Carhunas' proved their dedication by arriving in droves. It was a joyous reunion—the first since the Carhuna Pop-Up Museum—and the atmosphere was electric with anticipation.
In collaboration with our esteemed dealer partners, including DK Engineering, Cottingham Blue Chip London, Girardo & Co, Ashgood, HPC Classic, and VVS, we orchestrated a stunning display of automotive pairs that stirred the soul and sparked lively debate.
Hueliez Intruder & Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series
The Hueliez Intruder, a concept car revelation from the 1995 Paris Motor Show, manifested as an SLK meets G-Wagon marvel with military inspired underpinnings and a folding hard top, made it the talk of the day as the quintessential winter chariot. It sat proudly next to the SL65 Black Series, a UK RHD powerhouse auctioned by DK Engineering on Carhuna for £370,000, flexing its enormous wide arches which house its mammoth 325 section rear tyres, and deep cascading bonnet vents which hide its near 700bhp AMG V12 heart.
XKSS Continuation & Project 7
We were graced with the presence of two exceptional Jaguar models: the XKSS Continuation and the Project 7. The XKSS is one of just nine continuation models built by Jaguar Classic Works, produced six decades after production was curtailed by the 1957 Browns Lane factory fire. The Project 7 is a heavily reworked F-Type built in limited numbers by Jaguar’s SVO department, taking inspiration from Jaguar’s Le Mans success with the D-Type. Its modern driver aids make it the ideal winter alternative to the XKSS… perhaps improved further with a set of winter tyres.
The event's success was not limited to shelter from the elements indoors. The Carhuna Clubhouse car park became a carousel of automotive hues and eclectic styles. From Liquid Yellow Renault Sport Clios to a unique TVR Sagaris, the spectrum was as broad as it was brilliant, culminating with the exclusive Bentley Val D'Isere—a shooting brake with royal provenance and unmatchable flair.
The Val D’Isere was a standout car of the event being just 1 of 11 ever made. It started life as a Turbo R but was converted before delivery into a Shooting Brake and fitted with an all-wheel-drive system as complex as the starting procedure of the Millennium Falcon.
The interior, seemingly themed by the Swedish flag or Marge Simspon, is garish, but brilliant at the same time. Its lavish, leather and deep shag pile carpet are complemented by the traditional high class finishing of Crewe’s finest. Ordered originally by the Sultan of Brunei’s brother, it is the only car of the 11 built, that were all delivered to the Brunei Royal Family to have been released into public ownership, so we were incredibly lucky to have it join us.
Rain or shine, Carhunas come together with a shared enthusiasm.
