The ‘Daytona’ reincarnate: 1998 Ferrari 550 Maranello at Carhuna Auction

The Ferrari 550 Maranello is a true reflection of Ferrari’s ability to marry timeless looks with peak performance.

Conceived under the vision of Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, the 500 marked a significant departure from the mid-engined V12 Ferraris of the 1980s and early 1990s. Introduced in 1996, the 550 Maranello was Ferrari’s return to the front-engined, grand touring layout, reminiscent of its revered 1960s models like the 250 GT and the iconic Daytona.

Designed by Pininfarina’s Lorenzo Ramaciotti, the 550 Maranello's styling pays homage to its legendary ancestors. With features such as the prominent bonnet scoop inspired by the 250 GT SWB, gills echoing the 275 GTB, and a rear end that nods to the 365 GTB/4, it’s clear that Ferrari wanted to blend heritage with contemporary flair. The interior, draped in sumptuous leather, complements its exterior with a touch of elegance.

The 550 Maranello was not only visually striking; it's a driver focused grand tourer. The car's handling was surprisingly agile for its size and weight, and the open-gate six-speed manual gearbox provided an engaging driving experience. Under that vast bonnet, the 5.5-litre V12 engine delivered a powerful 480bhp, with a V12 growl that is still imposing, yet sophisticated today.

Featured in our upcoming Carhuna auction is the pristine 1998 Ferrari 550 Maranello, chassis number 113266, being offered by Girardo & Co. Delivered new to the UK on September 12, 1998, by Graypaul Ferrari, this right-hand-drive example is finished in the classic Rosso Corsa with Beige interior. The interior boasts optional extras like Beige trim on the steering wheel, dashboard, and A-pillars, contrasted by Darker Castoro carpets and Rosso stitching.

This 550 Maranello is distinguished not only by its classic specification, but also by its impeccable condition. With only 23,850 miles on the odometer, it has been meticulously maintained with 15 stamps from official Ferrari dealers.

The car’s paintwork is almost flawless, save for minor stone chips, and the engine bay remains pristine with all original factory stickers intact. Inside, the Beige leather upholstery has retained its luxurious gloss, and all features, including the air-conditioning, are fully functional.

The car is complete with its factory manuals, warranty, service booklets, tool kit, puncture-repair kit, and a comprehensive file of invoices and MOT certificates.

This Ferrari 550 Maranello embodies timeless design and performance and is a highlight of our upcoming auctions. Being supplied by Girardo & Co, it is live from July 26th to August 7th.
