Something for Everyone

No matter the budget, Carhuna has you covered

Since the conception of the motorcar, they have been regarded in society as symbols of success and, sometimes, excess. However, throughout history, only a few, rather than the many, have had access to what might be considered truly special automobiles.

But at Carhuna, we believe there is something special for everyone, at all budgets. That’s why we would like to invite you to join us at the Carhuna Clubhouse on the 17th of February for the first ‘Carhuna & Coffee’ morning of 2024, to display your special motor. You can RSVP to our latest meet here: events.carhuna.com.

In the meantime, to get the metaphorical cogs turning, we have put together a selection of choices that represent truly special automobiles at varying price ranges.

Under £25,000:

Honda EK9 Civic Type R:

Japan’s contender in the sub-£25k category is the dream of the Gran Turismo generation. The EK9 Type R may appear unremarkable on paper — after all, isn’t it just a 1.6L Civic? Well, that’s only part of the story. This particular Civic platform boasts a double-wishbone front and rear suspension, a feature that was only recently added to the Porsche 911! The car also features a stiffer, seam-welded body shell and a limited-slip differential. And let’s not forget those iconic red Recaro seats that complete the package. Plus, it’s equipped with a titanium gear knob, which is sure to make you the talk of the town!

BMW E46 M3:

The E46 M3 is the internet’s dream car – a perfect amalgamation of Germanic good looks, luxury materials, and screaming individual throttle bodies. Available in both manual and automated manual (SMG) gearbox variants, the E46 M3 represents exceptional value for money. Over two decades since their release, the E46 still sets the benchmark for fast coupes, and for good reason. Find a well-maintained one, complete some key maintenance work, and you’re set to enjoy it!

£25,000 - £50,000:

Ford Mustang Bullitt:

It’s literally got ‘Bullitt’ written on it – we probably don’t need to say much more. But, we will. Built to honour the Highland Green GT 390 driven by Steve McQueen in the film ‘Bullitt’, the modern version comes with Ford’s venerable Coyote V8, a manual gearbox, and matching green paintwork.

Lotus Exige 270E:

The Exige, Lotus’ more track-focused Elise offering, has been around for a while, but the sweet spot, we believe, is the S2 generation. Equipped with Toyota’s 2ZZ engine and, in most applications, a supercharger, they offer solid reliability and great fun. This 270E is a bit more special, thanks to its tri-fuel capability – it can run on petrol, ethanol, or methanol, allowing you to attack Paddock Hill bend while protecting the polar ice caps.

£50,000 - £100,000:

991 Porsche 911 Turbo S

We think it’s strange that the Turbo and Turbo S are so overlooked, the internet is a wash with GT3s and GT2s but the Turbo S especially represents great value for money. You get mind bending pace, but with the subtle and classy characteristics of a quite understated Porsche. A truly usable supercar that would offer you endless joy to live with and drive.

Lancia Delta Evo II

The Delta couldn’t be more opposite from the Porsche if it tried, it’s all turbo-lag and box arches. It is a true rally car for the road, with quad headlamps, grilles and vents. Whilst the Delta may not be as fast, it will turn more heads - and you’re unlikely to be upstaged when you arrive at the next Carhuna & Coffee morning!

Over £100,000:

Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500:

Yes, it’s a Sierra, and yes, it’s in this price bracket. The RS500, however, is a very special beast. Built to homologate the Sierra Cosworth for touring car racing, it features a series of upgrades over the base car. In full touring car trim, these RS500s could produce in excess of 500 bhp and, in the hands of drivers like Tim Harvey and Andy Rouse, could rival modern supercars for speed on circuits across the UK and Europe.

Aston Martin DB5:

If you prefer your mineral oil shaken, not stirred, then the DB5 is the car for you. Made iconic by the James Bond films, the DB5 transcends its cinematic fame. You don’t need to be wearing a tuxedo to appreciate its elegance and performance.

Ferrari Enzo:

Named after Mr. Ferrari himself, the Enzo is a marvel of automotive engineering. Adorned with copious amounts of carbon fibre and Formula 1 technology, it marks an incredibly special era in the motoring world. This particular example, one of only six believed to be finished in Grigio Titanio, is even more extraordinary.
