Lotus' Homage to a Motorsport Icon

A little sportscar, with a large namesake

Sir Stirling Moss was not just known as one of the greatest drivers of all time, but also for his eclectic taste, his penchant for cars that didn’t typically belong on the driveway of a Formula 1 driver. From the unassuming Renault Twizzy to the iconic R129 SL, and even his affection for the diminutive Smart, Moss's choice in motors was as diverse as his racing career.

While history often highlights Moss as the most successful Formula 1 driver never to clinch a world championship, his impact on the motorsport world remains undeniable and enduring. That's why when we spotted this classified, we felt we had to share it. The Lotus Elise Classic Heritage Edition – a tribute to the racing prowess of Lotus and more specifically, in this specification, to the legendary Sir Stirling Moss.

Built as one of four variations to commemorate Lotus' long standing racing success, the Classic Heritage Edition is a limited run of just 100 models. Enthusiasts fortunate enough to secure one were presented with a choice, to specify each car as an homage to different racing triumphs. This version is finished in a blue and white livery, an ode to Moss's pole position and subsequent victory at the 1960 Monaco Grand Prix.

Sadly, the announcement of these models happened in the wake of Moss's passing in 2020. Listed by Ashgood Porsche on Carhuna, they had this to say "An Elise doesn't come with a long list of options to begin with, but for these Classic Heritage Editions, Lotus made pretty much everything standard."

In addition to the standard Elise features,  there is a DAB radio with four speakers, air-conditioning, cruise control, forged alloy wheels, two-piece disc brakes, and black floor mats; these models offer an extra layer of exclusivity.

So whilst the Elise may not be the most special or even the fastest car to be associated with the legacy of Sir Stirling Moss - it does represent an opportunity to own your own slice of motorsport history. Etching together the motorsport pedigree of one of the most successful racing drivers with one of the most successful constructors.
