Jensen Interceptor R: A Fusion of Classic Design and Modern Performance Now at Auction

Carhuna is thrilled to announce the auction of a truly unique vehicle, the 1974 Jensen Interceptor R, which marries vintage charm with contemporary engineering.

This rare opportunity allows enthusiasts to own a piece of automotive history reimagined with today's technology. The Jensen, being offered by Cottingham Blue Chip London in an auction powered by Carhuna, is live now and will conclude on 8th May.

Originally produced in the West Midlands between 1966 and 1971, the Jensen Interceptor combined a dramatic GT body designed by Carrozzeria Touring with robust American V8 engines. Its head-turning style and powerful performance quickly garnered a celebrity following, including icons like Frank Sinatra and members of Led Zeppelin. The convertible Mk111 model, particularly desirable for its rarity and allure, epitomised grand touring luxury with only 87 right-hand drive units ever produced.

The featured 1974 model underwent a transformative rebirth under Jensen International Automotive, established in 2010 with substantial investment from Sir Charles Dunstone. Unlike its predecessors, this Interceptor R swaps the hefty Chrysler V8 for a modern 6.2-litre Chevrolet LS V8, delivering a robust 430 BHP. This upgrade, coupled with a contemporary 6-speed automatic transmission, propels the car to speeds exceeding 160 mph, achieving 0-60 mph in just 4.6 seconds.

Every aspect of the original has been refined, from brakes and suspension to electrics, ensuring reliability and performance that rival modern luxury cars. The car has been meticulously restored and custom-finished, offering both bespoke aesthetics and cutting-edge functionality. This makes the Interceptor R not just a collector's item but a viable choice for everyday driving or long-distance touring.

This specific vehicle, one of the 87 original RHD convertibles, was commissioned by Sir Charles Dunstone himself and used extensively in media promotions, appearing in outlets like The Times and on shows such as The Grand Tour. It features unique modifications such as an electric Lynx hood and a single windscreen wiper, typically found on supercharged models.

Presented in pristine condition, this Jensen Interceptor R represents a rare blend of classic British style and modern performance. With no waiting period required, the new owner can immediately enjoy this exceptional vehicle, which stands as a testament to the successful fusion of past elegance and present-day engineering.
