Carhuna Carpool: Tiff Drives the Lamborghini Murcielago LP 640

The Lamborghini Murcielago LP 640, an evolution of the original Murcielago, remains a masterpiece of Italian engineering.

In the latest episode of "Carhuna Carpool," legendary racer Tiff Needell takes the wheel of the Lamborghini Murcielago LP 640, provided by VVS UK. In this thrilling episode Tiff uncorks the V12 howl and power of this iconic Lamborghini.

The Lamborghini Murcielago LP 640, an evolution of the original Murcielago, remains a masterpiece of Italian engineering. Its development was spurred by a challenge to exceed the limits of the ageing 6.2-litre V12 engine, which traces its origins back to the Miura of 1967. Despite initial doubts from Lamborghini's parent company Audi, Italian engineers rose to the challenge, proving that "impossible" is not in their vocabulary.

To create the LP 640, Lamborghini stretched the V12 to 6.5 litres, necessitating a new crankshaft, heads, and a revised intake system. The cooling system was upgraded, and a new exhaust was fitted, with four new ECUs managing the engine. The result was a stunning 640 horsepower, allowing the LP 640 to reach 8,100 rpm. This powerful engine propelled the car from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.4 seconds, with a top speed of 210mph.
