A Storied Legacy: The Frazer Nash Mille Miglia

Born out of Frazer Nash’s pre-war expertise and the ingenuity of BMW’s former technical director, Fritz Fiedler.

In the world of classic sports cars, few names evoke a sense of heritage and innovation like Frazer Nash. Known for their lightweight designs and impressive performance, Frazer Nash cars have carved a unique niche in automotive history. At the forefront of this lineage stands the Mille Miglia model, a testament to the brand's post-war ingenuity and enduring appeal. Carhuna is proud to feature a distinguished Frazer Nash Mille Miglia in our upcoming Race Car Auction.

The Mille Miglia model, born out of Frazer Nash’s pre-war expertise, was heavily influenced by the Aldington brothers' experience with importing BMWs and the ingenuity of BMW’s former technical director, Fritz Fiedler. The result was a series of cars that combined sleek design with potent performance, most notably embodied in the "100-series" tubular chassis.

This particular Frazer Nash Mille Miglia, chassis 421/100/168 (FN168), is an embodiment of automotive artistry. Completed on April 8, 1952, and debuted at the Turin Motor Show, this car marked the culmination of Frazer Nash’s post-war recovery efforts. It stood as a proud symbol of British craftsmanship among Italy’s finest coachbuilders.

After changing hands among prominent owners in the USA, including J. Stuart ‘Duke’ Donaldson and Perry Boswell, FN168 journeyed through various phases of its life, from being a prized possession to a restoration project awaiting a new lease on life. Its journey from a warehouse storage in Hawaii to a complete restoration in New Zealand is a tale of passion and perseverance.

The car’s older restoration presents a blend of historical charm and contemporary appeal. Chassis FN168 is not just a collector's item; it’s a versatile jewel eligible for prestigious events such as Goodwood and Le Mans Classic. Its Bristol Maroon exterior and Grey leather interior speak volumes of its elegance and racing heritage.

This Frazer Nash Mille Miglia is more than just a car; it’s a piece of racing history, a marvel of engineering, and a work of art. Its inclusion in Carhuna’s Race Car Auction presents a rare opportunity to own a piece of automotive legend. For enthusiasts and collectors alike, this is a chance not to be missed - an invitation to own a car that can make history come alive on the road and track alike. The hammer will drop on the 26th March.
