A Unique Opportunity: 1996 Mercedes-Benz S600L Estate at Carhuna Auction
The Mercedes-Benz S600L Estate, a remarkable example of luxury and engineering, is now available in a Carhuna auction.
This auction, managed by DK Engineering, is live today and will conclude on August 7th. Launched in 1991, the W140 generation of the S-Class was designed by Bruno Sacco and represented Mercedes-Benz's flagship saloon. Known for its advanced technological innovations, the W140 introduced features like Brake Assist, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), side airbags, automatic windscreen wipers, xenon headlights, and double-paned soundproof glass. These innovations set a new standard for luxury and safety in the automotive industry.
The W140 series was offered with a variety of engines, including inline-6, V8, and V12 configurations. The M120 V12 engine, in particular, was notable for its impressive performance and later found its way into the Pagani Zonda C12. AMG, initially a separate entity focused on performance enhancements, collaborated with Mercedes-Benz in the early 1990s, leading to the development of models like the 1993 C36 AMG. This collaboration paved the way for AMG's eventual acquisition by Daimler-Chrysler AG in 1999.
The S600L Estate being offered is an exceptionally rare vehicle, with only 18 examples known to have been converted to estate form on behalf of AMG. It is believed that 15 of these were commissioned by a single prominent Royal Family, making this car a unique and highly sought-after collector's item.
To create this S600L Estate, AMG enlisted specialised coachbuilding expertise, adapting the long-wheelbase variant of the S-Class. The conversion involved using metalwork from the S210 E-Class estate, resulting in a distinctive extended roofline and rear hatchback. This particular example, sourced from Japan, was finished by Falcon Design. The interior boasts luxurious Designo Green leather and trim, and the car retains its original electric rear seat adjustments.
Under the hood, the S600L Estate is powered by the M120 6.0-litre V12 engine, shared with the Pagani Zonda C12, making it one of the few four-door, V12-powered estate cars in existence. Finished in Polar White, this left-hand-drive model stands out as a unique piece of automotive history.
With its impeccable condition and provenance, this 1996 Mercedes-Benz S600L Estate presents a rare opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts alike. Don’t miss the chance to own this one-off vehicle. Visit Carhuna to place your bid before the auction concludes on August 7th.
