About this specific vehicle
1970 Ferrari 365 GT 2+2
This Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 is one of only 52 RHD examples supplied new to the UK, a hugely popular model for Ferrari with approximately 800 cars being made in 4 years of production. It marked the end of an era for both the single overhead cam Columbo engine as well as the sleek Pininfarina design language which began in the 1950’s.
Ordered new by Grosvenor Square Properties Ltd through Maranello Concessionaires, this car was originally supplied in the attractive shade of Azzuro Hyperion with Beige interior and the registration ‘752 R’. Early paperwork in the extensive history file details the extensive maintenance completed by Fulton Tuning throughout the 70s, indeed the Ferrari was properly driven with 46,000 miles being covered in its first six years of life. The car changed hands in 1978 to second owner Mr Brian Cocks who sent the car straight to Graypaul for a full appraisal. A full mechanical overhaul of the car was completed as required including a top end engine rebuild (50,534 miles), gearbox rebuild, carburettor adjustment etc all to the amount of £2,670 in 1978!
Mr Cocks owned and carefully maintained the car until the early 1980’s at which point he sold it to Mr David Hill from whose family we are proud to offer the car today. Following purchase Mr Hill became a member of the local Ferrari Owner’s Club – attending events, going on rallies and enjoying the car with other family members. The car continued to be maintained by local Ferrari agent, Graypaul. During Mr Hill’s careful ownership the car was dry stored and used sparingly only in summer months and never when wet.
Following Mr Hills passing his family decided the car should be subjected to a bare metal repaint to Bleu Ferrari and to have any areas of corrosion attended to. The work was completed in December 2016 with the final amount totalling over £32,000 which included new front carpets, an engine and brake fluid service and new alternator. Post restoration the car has been professionally stored in dry, dehumidified storage and run up to temperature regularly. More recently the car has had the carburettors stripped and rebuilt and the rear suspension was overhauled. We have received the car for sale directly from acknowledged Ferrari experts Bob Houghton Ltd who completed an annual service including a re-core of the radiator.
This is an incredibly useable Ferrari with the potent 4.4 litre engine, presented in a lovely colour combination and fully matching numbers throughout. A recent drive in the car showed an engine that was extremely responsive, had power through the rev range and was turn-key reliable when both hot and cold. It is a very well set up car with suspension and brakes, great road holding and stopping power respectfully. A lovely example of perhaps the marques most accomplished 2+2 touring cars, it comes with a fantastic history, now available from long term loving ownership of over forty years.
