About this specific vehicle
This Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTC, is a lovely cabriolet version of the Sprint GT coupe and produced in very limited numbers, making them rare today.
Only 99 RHD cars were made for the British and South African market, out of a total production of 1003 RHD and LHD.
The car was based on the Giulia Sprint GT, with the cabriolet modification carried out by Touring of Milan.
Besides the cabriolet top, a distinguishing feature is the dashboard finished in black instead of grey crackle.
The model was badged with a script reading “Giulia GTC” on the boot lid.
To recreate the bodyshell rigidity lost by removing the fixed roof and pillars, Touring added reinforcement to several areas of the bodyshell.
Despite the extra steel reinforcement, the GTC curb weight was only 905 kg (2,000 lbs), contributing to its sparkling performance potential.
Of special interest is the fact that the Giulia GTC was the very last project undertaken by Carrozzeria Touring before it went out of business, making the GTC even more of a rarity in collectible vintage cars.
This particular example was purchased new by Brian Rix, the west end theatre and film star, a very dashing and flamboyant car for an actor in the limelight in swinging 60s London.
This example is in superb condition, having been laid up in dry storage for the past 20 years.
It has been recommissioned with new brakes and perishable components and made ready for some very stylish summer motoring.
There is a substantial history file and photographic restoration history from the 1990s when it went through a very thorough and professional restoration, as well as the original green log book with Brian Rix as original purchaser.
A rare motor car, a piece of history and an investment.
