Launching to the world in the late 1960s, the DBS quickly cemented itself as Aston Martin’s flagship model by cleverly fusing grand tourer like abilities with brutish performance. Establishing itself as the fastest four-seater production car in the world in 1969, Aston’s GT went on to become a star of the big screen when George Lazenby swapped the iconic DB5 for the DBS in Her Majesty’s Secret Service.
Fast forward to the 21st century and the DBS alternated flagship duties with the Vanquish models and and in 2018 the third-generation of DBS was launched to the world, this time using the ‘Superleggera’ nameplate as a nod to the Italian coachbuilders who assisted with creating lightweight Aston Martins in the 1960s and 70s.
The all-new DBS continues the tradition of grand-tourer abilities with blistering performance but now laden with cutting-edge tech and motorsport derived aero. Look under the bonnet and you’ll find a reworked high-boost twin-turbo 5.2-litre V12 taken from the DB11 but now producing 715bhp, propelling the DBS from 0-62mph in just 3.4 seconds. The gearbox utilises the same ZF 8-speed from the DB11, but with a shorter ratio as well as torque vectoring and a mechanical limited slip differential. Aston Martin also clearly spent a considerable amount of time on the handling with the aerodynamics having been cleverly reworked including an F1-inspired double-diffuser ensuring a 180kg of downforce which is the highest-ever for a production Aston Martin.
Ordered through Aston Martin Bristol and supplied to its first and only owner in March 2019, the total cost of the vehicle was £256,412. The vendor has reported that the car has been garage kept its whole life, whilst on a trickle charger whilst not in use.
