General Description
The Lamborghini Huracán made its grand reveal during the Geneva Auto Show held in March 2014, and was released in the second quarter of 2014. The car that was to replace Lamorghini's sales leading and most produced marque, the Gallardo, proved to be an instant success when it was named "Supercar of The Year 2014" by car magazine Top Gear.
Inspired by a Legendary Spanish Fighting Bull known for its courage, the Huracán Coupe was created for unprecedented performance and adopts Lamborghini's all-wheel drive system in combination with the 7-speed Lamborghini Doppia Frizione dual-clutch transmission. To enhance its performance even further Lamborghini installed the Piattaforma Inerziale, created for real time detection of every bit of chassis movement and to optimise adjustments of the car setup in real time.
Launched in 2017, the Performante took the world by storm. A blistering 6 minute 52 second lap of the infamous Nürburgring put the Lamborghini ahead of even Porsche’s hybridised 918 Spyder. The lighter, stiffer, more powerful Performante saved 40 kilograms over the standard car, whilst power was upped by 29 bhp to 631 bhp.
The power gains came from a new intake manifold, a light repositioned exhaust system and new titanium valves with more lift. Peak power comes at 8,000rpm and peak torque of 443 lb/ft at 6,500 rpm; 70% of the torque however is available from just above idle.
Through the addition of Lamborghini’s ‘Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva’ (ALA) or active aerodynamics, the Performante can lower its drag resistance in a straight line, increase downforce through its more traditional spoiler or channel air independently to deliver what Lamborghini calls ‘aero vectoring’, a mechanism to deliver bespoke downforce and improve cornering speeds.
