About this specific vehicle
2018 Audi R8 V10
Specific Vehicle Description:
What's common between Mouton, Röhrl, Kristensen, Mikkola, Blomqvist, and you? If you think the answer to that is the love for Audi, you wouldn't be wrong. But there is quite a wide variety of Audis to be enamoured with — some look great, some drive exceptionally well, and some are just about the perfect cars to live with — so which one do you choose? We'll make it simple for you. Among modern Audis, there is nothing that offers the amalgamation of the aforementioned qualities as effectively as the R8. And with the current one bowing out soon, its endless list of appeal is definitely going to include the term collectable classic, because it has all the makings of one.
We are proud to present one such collectable example that's made to offer pure, unadulterated driving fun. It's the limited-run 2018 Audi R8 RWS (short for Rear Wheel Series) that, from the factory, swapped the quattro setup available as standard on the R8 for a rear-wheel drive. This particular car also benefits from an Audi-exclusive grey paint, an interior with contrast stitching, PPF, and a long list of optional extras — as one can tell from the photos. It has seven former keepers, its service history is documented, and it's been recently bestowed with new brakes.
Audi Sport made just 999 of these and was (rightfully) proud to mention that the R8 RWS shared not just factory space but also more than 60 per cent of its components, including the RWD layout, with the competition-spec R8 LMS GT4 racer. The removal of the quattro system led to a weight saving of about 50 kilos, and that's reflected in its commendable performance stats. Despite no AWD, the car was claimed to hit 62 mph from a standing start in 3.7 seconds whereas the top speed was 198 mph. Impressive, to say the least!
Service History:
This Audi R8 RWS was first registered in May 2018 and has covered just 32,141 miles. According to the supplied service and mileage history, it had a multi-point check at 3,000 miles in early 2019, followed by an oil change later that year, and a routine brake fluid and oil change service every year since then. The latest one was carried out by Styner BMW, at 29,351 miles, and the R8 got a new oil filter, front and rear brakes (both disks and pads), set of wipers, and cabin filter. This car also comes with a warranty from Synter lating untill September 2024.
Full Disclosure:
That Audi hasn't been able to come up with a successor to the outgoing R8 yet is understandable because that would be a tall order. Initially launched as a mid-engined V8 sports car, the car just kept on getting better with each revision. The second-generation model, available from 2015 onwards further modernised the car, and versions like the RWS offered a slightly different recipe for fun. What's remained unchanged is that despite being a thoroughly easy car to live with, the R8 had the potential to make every drive memorable. The 5.2-litre engine is partly to blame for that, and so are the inherent chassis balance, the high-quality but fairly minimal interior, and the really likeable appearance...
The 2018 example here is a touch more special with the inclusion of an Audi Exclusive Grey paint. Complementing that are its 20-inch 10-spoke wheels finished in gloss black and brake callipers painted red. There's also a Gloss Carbon Exterior Pack, which covers bits like the sideblade and mirror caps in glossy carbon. On the inside, the R8 RWS is specced with a Sound & Comfort Pack (which includes a Bang & Olufsen sound system, reversing camera, etc.), leather interior with Nappa leather (electric + memory) front seats and contrast stitching, steel pedals, and smartphone connectivity. Keen enthusiasts will also appreciate the optional Audi sports exhaust with Akrapovic tips.
Well-specced and in great condition, this 2018 Audi R8 RWS serves as a solid reminder that Audi gave the modern car world an immensely talented car. It shared a lot with the Gallardo but offered a different take on fast motoring. There has been nothing like an Audi R8 and quite possibly there won't ever be. Thankfully, with examples like this RWS, there's still a chance to own and enjoy one.
