General Description
To replace the 997 GT3, Porsche had to up the game quite considerably. Introduced in 2013, the 991 GT3 received an all-new direct injection 3.8-litre flat-six engine producing 468 hp and revving to 9,000 RPM. The engine remained naturally aspirated over its predecessor and delivers thrilling performance figures, with the top speed a shade under 200mph and a 0-60mph time of just 3.5 seconds. Porsche's superb 7-speed PDK gearbox was the only transmission option available.
As well as the steering now being electrically assisted, the 991 GT3 benefits from unique computer software, a stiffened-up front end and at the back there is a new electro-mechanical rear-wheel steering system. This turns the back wheels in the opposite direction, or in the same direction to those at the front, to either improve response or increase stability, depending on how fast you are travelling. With front-end grip in abundance, the recipe for this most recent instalment of Porsche's iconic sports car is one that is sure to thrill and excite.
The .2 generation was introduced in 2020 and the facelift saw not just design revisions to the outside, but mechanical ones under the skin too. For the first time in a non-RS GT3, displacement is bumped to 4.0-litre. The increased capacity saw a bump in torque and a further 20 hp liberated from the flat-six. Furthermore with the .2, a six-speed manual was re-added to the GT3 range, refined after implementation in the 911 R. Manual cars come equipped with a mechanical limited-slip differential.
