The frenzy around JDM cars isn't an unjustified one, for they usually represent something beyond the ordinary. From kei cars to Japan-only iterations of certain models, there's a fair bit to choose from. Adding to that is the country's strong car culture whose influence on films, video games, and manga comics is evident; it's only natural for a car lover to grow fond of JDM. So when after a break of nearly half a decade, Honda decided to bring out a new iteration of the Civic Type R, expectations would've been quite high. And with Honda themselves importing it to Europe (and the UK), it was clear that this model would turn out to be successful! And in the three years it was on sale, between 2015 and 2017, the FK2 Civic Type R managed to re-establish its appeal. A highly focussed hot hatch, ready to take on the best in the class, it even got a nice Nurburgring lap record to prove its worth. And although replaced by a newer model, it continues to be relevant and still has everything it takes to be considered a great purchase for keen driving enthusiasts.
But what if someone took an FK2 Type R and made it even more special — a bit closer to the treatment it'd have received in the Japanese market? That sounds intriguing, doesn't it? That's exactly what Mugen Euro did to their Type R. Presented here is an ex-Mugen Euro demo car with clean records, a detailed service history, two owners, and a bucket load of Mugen parts, making it the only one of its kind in the whole of Europe, says the seller. With just 23,600 miles on the clock, it's an exciting proposition in itself, but the extras worth at least £20,000 (plus labour costs) are another reason why this FK2 deserves more attention than any other. Plus having been featured in the Mugen catalogue, it definitely is a star already!
Service History:
The 2015 Honda Civic Type R has done 23,600 miles in total and has had two owners since new, that is in the last eight years. It comes with a full service history along with other paperwork: user manuals and previous invoices. Its current MoT, passed without any advisories, is valid till September 2024.
The seller mentions that under their ownership, the car has undergone a partial restoration, mainly comprising some paint correction, wheel refurbishment, ceramic coating, interior refresh, etc. In terms of service, the latest was in September 2022: a 25k-mile service and it got new spark plugs, a rocker cover seal, and an air filter. The car also got new brake discs and pads just prior to that.
Full Disclosure:
Not that the 2015 Civic Type R isn't a great car on its own, but the inclusion of Mugen parts does make it even more likeable. Some of these are even treated with protective Cerakote coating, ensuring that they stay like new for longer. In addition to that, some parts also come with original certificates, user manuals, and even original packaging. The list of Mugen parts is as follows: front and rear bumpers, rear diffuser, sports mat, carbon fibre number plate garnish, leather shift knob, MS-R bucket seats with Recaro seat rails and mounting plate, etc. If this doesn't sound impressive enough, there's also the Mugen forged aluminium wheels (along with the wheel nut and lock set), rear spoiler, and a Titanium Sport exhaust. The car's currently running on Michelin Pilot Sport 4Ss and other non-Mugen upgrades, which the seller confirms are reversible — should the new owner want to do that — are a high-flow K&N air filter, front brake discs from the newer Civic Type R, boot liner, HEL braided brake hose, sea-back/shell protectors from Recaro, etc.
The seller states that apart from some stone chips and slight wear on the steering wheel, the car is spotless. It also benefits from being garaged indoors. The photos do verify the condition! In the current ownership, the car has undergone a minor restoration to bring it to tip-top condition (paint correction, ceramic coating, wheel refurbishment and replacement of worn interior pieces).
The stock Honda Civic Type R (FK2) made a strong 300+ hp from a 2-litre engine that employed both turbocharging and variable valve timing to attain that. It marked a huge change in the way Honda made power — and it's safe to say that they delivered. But it wasn't just the engine that stood out; the car, which came back to the market after a hiatus, was equipped with a standard LSD, adaptive dampers, big brakes, etc. There was also a +R and that makes the Type R even sharper. And did we mention that this one gets a splatter of rare (and tasteful) Mugen parts?!
Mugen upgrades include the following goodies:
Other Honda/ after-market upgrades:
They are the icing on the cake and all can be reversed and put back to stock.
Consignor Quote:
"A true JDM hero perfected and enhanced by the world-renowned mugen euro. A future classic and collectable in outstanding condition."
