It's only normal for the car enthusiast to think of Mezger, when someone just about mutters the word 'Porsche'. Be it the flat-12 in the 917, the flat-six in the 959, or the much more accessible flat-six in various iterations of the 911 — nearly everything in the air-cooled era, and the GT3 and Turbo examples in the 996 and 997 was either made by Hans Mezger — or was a subsequent development of one of his creations. But choosing a Mezger 911 would be quite an unordinary task unless you're after a modern iteration, and there's the rather brilliant 997 GT3 RS 4.0 brought into the equation.
Limited to 600 examples globally, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 (997) was brought out towards the end of the 997 generation but with useful changes made to further the car's appeal. It was lighter (by a substantial 10 kilos in comparison to the 3.8-litre-engined GT3 RS), more powerful (493 hp), and its larger engine (complete with motorsport-derived components) revved higher, too. As a result of the obsessive pursuit of perfection, Porsche's GT department created yet another collectable classic. Listed here is a 2011 GT3 RS 4.0, originally delivered in France in 2012 and imported into the UK in 2014. It's had just two owners since in the UK, comes with well-documented history and service records, and with just 14k miles on the odometer and maintained only at Porsche (more details on that below), it's bound to offer an unrivalled driving experience.
Service History:
Since the time it was imported to the UK, it has only been serviced by Porsche. It has been to Official Porsche Centre four times since 2014 for service and the included paperwork has the details. The latest service was carried out in July this year at Brooklands Porsche Centre, at 14,043 miles. The seller also confirms that the car's warranty (which was valid till 2022) can be extended if the new owner wishes to do so.
Full Disclosure:
There's a lot to like in a Porsche GT3 RS, especially one which has the last of Mezger engines, a 6-speed gearbox, and the less common black paint. But the LHD 2011 GT3 RS 4.0 here has a few more tricks up its sleeve. It comes with the Clubsport package (and the black roll cage), 'PCCB' ceramic brakes, bucket seats, carbon fibre and Alcantara trim/upholstery, Sound Package, etc.
There's very little deviation from the condition the car would've left Porsche's dealership in France 11 years ago. The seller mentions that both the bodywork and interior are spot-free, other than minute stone chips at the front bumper. Otherwise, as can be seen in the photos, it's in superb nick. Nearly-new as many would say, and we don't see a reason to doubt that!
Consignor Quote:
"A great example of the most coveted car to come from Porsche's GT division"
