Jaguar is hailed as one of the greatest makers of sports cars of all time and their XK series is a large part of the reason as to why. Jaguar had produced sports cars before the war, namely the SS100 of 1935, however, the introduction of the XK120 in 1948 set in motion the start of almost 75 years of producing world beating sports cars. The XK140 and XK150 followed after and then, in 1961, the very much loved and revered E-Type, known as the XKE in the US, was introduced to the world. The XJS followed in 1975 and over 20 years later the XK8.
By 2005, the old XK8 shape was looking obsolete next to the front engine sports coupes offered by German rivals BMW and Mercedes. So, under the guidance of world-renowned designer Ian Callum, a new XK was designed. The car took inspiration from previous Jaguar sports cars, such as the grille, which is based on the E-Type’s. The car was unveiled at the 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show with the 4.2-litre V8 engine seen in the XK8. By 2009, the 4.2 was dropped in favour of a brand new 5.0 Supercharged V8 producing just under 400 hp.
In the same year as the XK the XKR was introduced. This was a much more brutal and savage version of the XK, producing more power and having a more aggressive look. But by 2011, Jaguar decided that the XKR was not the best they could do and unveiled the XKR-S at that years Geneva Motor Show. Notable changes over the standard XKR include an increase in power to 542 hp as well as a higher top speed of 186 mph. The XKR-S had different styling cues to the XKR, adding a larger grille and alloy wheels unique to the car. Production of the XKR-S was limited and concluded in 2014, making a very rare car.
The XKR-S shows what Jaguar can offer in a sports car. While it has a timeless design taken from its past it also has the performance to live up to the Jaguar name.

There is 540 bhp on tap with a 0-60 mph time of 4.2 seconds and a limited top speed, (should conditions allow) of 186 mph. This is hugely powerful motor car that is yet docile in traffic.
