General Description
Wiesmann sports cars are manufactured by hand, from the chassis to the electronics, seating and assembly. Born from the minds of two brothers, with a familial relationship with the BMW marque spanning 40 years, the resulting product was two-seater sportscar lineage with a BMW heart and 50:50 weight distribution.
After a five-year development, the MF4 was introduced with a Lotus Elise-style epoxy-bonded aluminium tub and lightweight GFRP bodywork. The engine, gearbox, braking system and electronics are shared with BMW’s E53 X5 4.8iS, with a recalibrated traction control system.
The venerable 4.6 litre V8 powerplant afford the X5 362bhp, enough to see the 0-60 sprint completed in 6.1 seconds. The MF4 tips the scales at a Mini Cooper rivalling 1240kg, or, over 1000kg lighter than the X5. As result, the MF4 benefits from a 911 GT3-matching 297bhp/tonne power to weight ratio. The gearbox, also borrowed from the X5 but recalibrated is ZF’s fastest, smoothest and smartest six-speed automatic with paddles.
With each example built by hand, the MF4 took 8 months to assemble.
About this specific vehicle
A rare sight in right hand drive, just a handful of cars are known to have been delivered as such worldwide. Introduced in 2004 with BMW’s then latest iteration of the M5, the colour Sepang Bronze was introduced to tribute Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit and presents as a warm honeyed bronze. The hue transfers perfectly to the MF4, reminding us of the grand-touring intentions of the model with an elegant sporting twist.
A popular shade for Wiesmann, Sepang Bronze has been seen on several occasions and introductory models. This exact MF4 being no stranger to the spotlight; shown to the public at both the 2009 Geneva International Motor Show and at 2009 Top Marques Monaco. After these two events, Wiesmann retained the car for display purposes. When the car was sold in 2012, it was done so as a new car, through a Dutch exporter. Purchased from Holland, the current and sole UK keeper for this MF4 imported the car into the UK, underwent the Individual Vehicle Approval process and registered the car to his address.
Since 2012, the car has been kept as part of a significant collection of cars and used sparingly. Today the Wiesmann, having covered a mere 2,050 miles from new is offered accompanies two others as a part of the YOLO collection.
