General Description

Brabus tuning house was born in 1977 out of a frustration that no-one else was tuning cars the way that Bodo Buschmann envisioned. Forward to 2006 and not much had changed - AMG felt that the 5.4-litre and 6.2-litre V8s was enough for the spicy CLS options; Brabus on the other hand had other ideas.

The result was to take the top of the range Mercedes M275 twin-turbo V12, bore it out to 6.3 litres and stick it in the front of the CLS. The result was an eye-watering 730hp and a thumping 1320 nm of torque, enough to propel the sleek Mercedes to 0-62 in a 3.2 seconds which will outrun a Murcielago.


The rest of the car found relevant upgrades, too — from suspension to brakes, and even the interior. Anything that would help them make the CLS not just faster but also more focussed, found its way to the car. As a result, the Brabus Rocket went on to set a high-speed record for a four-door production saloon in 2006, reaching 227.2 mph at the Nardo Ring in Italy.

All Rockets benefitted from an updated aero package, large wheels (which don't just look great but also serve the purpose of ensuring enough clearance between them and the upgraded discs), recalibrated electronics to ensure it's still a Euro-IV-compliant machine, and a lush all-black interior with swathes of carbon fiber, Mastik leather, Alcantara, and even a 400 km/h speedometer. Brabus has left its mark on nearly everything, making the cabin a great deal better than on the standard CLS.
