General Description
The Aston Martin V12 Vanquish was first introduced in the early 2000s, and represented a new era
for the renowned British manufacturer. Departing from the longstanding tradition of using the Tadek Marek 5.3-litre V8 engine that had powered the marque’s iconic ‘V’ cars for over three decades,
Aston Martin had little choice but to retire the venerable V8 in the face of ever stringent environmental regulations. Following years of testing, the first opportunity for Aston Martin to use the V12 engine in an actual production car was the DB7 Vantage of 1999.
A year later, in October 2000, the production Vanquish V12 was first shown to a select group of
press and potential customers, with its official unveiling in 2001 at the Geneva Motor Show. With the revitalised Newport Pagnell factory in full swing, production started soon afterwards, and deliveries to customers commenced in the summer of 2001.
The 2+2 option offered further practicality without compromising on luxury or performance, makingit an ideal choice for those needing to balance an incomparable driving experience with the addedconvenience of accommodating additional passengers. With its rear seats a £7,000 option at the time, the V12 Vanquish 2+2 variant provided a touch of versatility, allowing for memorable journeys with friends or family without sacrificing the thrill of driving an iconic GT.
Not only popular due to its looks and increased power capabilities, its appearance on the silver
screen alongside James Bond in ‘Die Another Day’ further elevated its status, solidifying its place
in automotive history as an icon of its time.
As production progressed, Aston Martin continually refined the V12 Vanquish model, culminating in
the introduction of the V12 Vanquish S in 2004. Despite its eventual discontinuation in 2007, also
marking the end of production at the Newport Pagnell facility, the V12 Vanquish left an indelible
mark on automotive enthusiast around the world. With only 2,589 units ever produced of all
variants, the Vanquish remains a coveted collector’s item and a symbol of Aston Martin’s
commitment to excellence.
