General Description
Founded in 1947 by the inventive Trevor Wilkinson in Blackpool, TVR's journey began with a bold vision to create high-performance, lightweight sports cars. Wilkinson's first creation in 1949 was a testament to his resourcefulness, built on a multi-tubular chassis with Morris 8 components and a Ford 100E engine, all wrapped in a metal body shell he designed himself.
Wilkinson's innovative use of a glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) body mounted on a multi-tubular chassis became TVR's signature. With a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout, and a focus on power-to-weight ratio, TVR's cars were built for thrilling performance. By positioning the engine far back in the chassis, TVR achieved near-perfect 50/50 weight distribution, resulting in exceptional handling. TVRs were known to weigh about the same as a small family car but delivered five times the power, giving them a distinctive edge on the road.
Hand-built to order in Blackpool, TVR became the largest wholly British car manufacturer during the 1990s and early 2000s. Their approach to production was unique; not only did TVR use their own engines, but they also manufactured over 85% of their parts in-house. This allowed for greater control over costs, quality, and the exclusivity of their small-batch production.
In 2000, TVR unveiled the Tamora at the Birmingham Motor Show. Named after a character from Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus, the Tamora was designed as a more accessible, entry-level model, offering a blend of practicality and TVR's signature performance. It was intended to replace the iconic Griffith and Chimaera models, and although those were tough acts to follow, the Tamora was crafted to be more urban-friendly without sacrificing TVR's renowned driving experience. Built on the Tuscan Speed Six’s chassis and suspension, the Tamora featured a reworked 3.6-litre version of the Speed Six engine, delivering exhilarating performance. With only 356 units ever made, ensuring the Tamora remains a key part of TVR’s history well into the future.
About this specific vehicle
This TVR Tamora is a standout example of a modern classic, with incredibly low mileage and a history of careful ownership. And for anyone looking for a way into the TVR family, this is the car – offering all the thrills of the Tuscan’s Speed Six engine, but in a smaller and more approachable package.
Powered by a naturally aspirated 3.6-litre inline-six, this Tamora kicks out 350 bhp at 7,200 rpm and 290 lb-ft of torque at 5,500 rpm, delivering serious performance. It’ll hit 160 mph flat out and sprint from 0-60 in just 4.2 seconds. With the engine fully rebuilt and a new AP clutch fitted, this car is primed for serious fun on the open road.
Finished in sleek Moonraker Black, it’s every bit as striking as you’d expect from a TVR, with a stylish interior to match – Black and Portland Grey leather, contrasting stitching, brushed aluminium details, and carbon-fibre touches on the door cards, centre console, and glove box. It has a set of 18-inch seven-spoke alloys, wrapped in fresh Continental SportContact tyres to keep everything planted.
The car retains all the factory features anyone would want – TVR-branded steering wheel, aluminium gear knob, power steering, electric windows – but it also comes with a few period touches like the classic Alpine ‘face-off’ stereo. Over £19,000 of work has gone into this Tamora, including new GAZ shocks, upgraded brakes, a lightweight flywheel, a new radiator, throttle body refurbishment, and much more. Not just a pretty exterior, then – this car is mechanically ready for the road.
With full service records, MOT history, a spare key, and its original manual, this Tamora is a rare opportunity to get behind the wheel of a true British sports car. Fast, stylish, and reliable – it’s ready for its next adventure.
