About this specific vehicle
In the late nineties and the early noughties there were a number of rivalries that would split kids on the playground and people in the office in their allegiance. Arguments and disagreements would be heard about whether Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United was better than Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal or whether Hakkinen was better than Schumacher. But another rivalry that had friends and colleagues disagreeing at scholl and in the workplace was that between the Subaru Impreza and the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution.
The original Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, unveiled in 1992, was a more powerful and lighter version of its fifth generation Lancer. It utilised the 2 litre turbo charged inline four from the Galant and removed the weight from the standard Lancer. Over the generations improvements were made, arriving at the seventh evolution in 2001. The Evo VII was the first to have less links with the rally cars being used on the harsh World Rally Championship stages. However, this did not curtail its performance capabilities. Power was stated at 276 BHP, produced by a 2-litre turbocharged inline four sending the power to all four wheels. But the changes to the chassis gave it great plaudits, giving it a supercar feel at an affordable price.
