General Description

The 1990s were a different time for BMW compared to the modern day. Engineers had their way and six-cylinders and V8s were the order of the day alongside 50:50 weight distribution and best-in-class handling dynamics.

Launched in 1997, the Z3M was the very first 'ZM' car to be launched by BMW. Offered originally as a roadster variant the Z3M utilised the mechanicals from the E36 M3 up until 2001 where the last few cars switched to the newer, more powerful 'S54' engine also found in the infamous E46 M3 with only 168 right-hand-drive examples believed to have been produced. This resulted in a power-increase to 320bhp and 350NM of torque.

The roadster had its critics though with the lack of roof leading to an obvious dynamic weakness leading then head of BMW's special modern series, Berkhard Goeschel to counter with the Z3M coupe. The purpose being to increase rigidity whilst keeping many of the roadsters design-cues such as the pillar-less doors. Affectionately nicknamed the "clown shoe" due to its unique design, it boasts distinctive styling features such as a long hood, short overhangs, and a muscular wide stance with fender flares, which provide significant road presence and hint at its performance capabilities. Now a true-collector car due to low production numbers, prices have been climbing steadily globally and are a must for any modern-classic collection.

About this specific vehicle

Supplied new in September 2001 in striking Titanium Silver over Black Nappa leather, this example was purchased by its current and fourth owner from Duncan Hamilton ROFGO in 2019. It has now been cherished and used lovingly for 5 years, with only a few thousand miles added to the odometer each year, currently reading 93,150 miles. Of the 168 right hand drive examples made, this is one of the 128 produced for the UK market, making it a particularly rare car seldom seen on the roads. Largely stock with no upgrades, this example features an aftermarket Kenwood stereo and new K&N airbox. However, the original BMW Business RDS car radio (with operating instructions) and airbox are included in the sale, allowing the car to be reverted to its standard configuration if the new owner desires.

The car presents in great condition for its age and mileage, both inside and out, having always been garaged with it's current owner when not in use. It boasts standard equipment such as heated electric sports seats, electric windows, air conditioning, and electric heated mirrors. In October 2023, it was sent to MG specialists Brown and Gammons to address rust and bubbling on the screen area and offside rear wing, with the inside being wax-oiled, primed, and painted to prevent recurrence. There remains a very small affected area on the front end, which is detailed in the full disclosure section with photographs. Having been well cared for, it is no surprise that it passed its most recent MoT in February 2024 with no advisories apart from a worn rear tyre. This was recently addressed with a brand new set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4s put on all four corners of the car. The service history is also outlined below and photographed, with the most recent service performed by Specialist Cars Stevenage, which consisted of an "Inspection 2," a deeper, more thorough check that includes spark plug, air filter, fuel filter, and parking brake inspections or replacements, alongside the brake fluid service.

Full Disclosure

Please note that while the rear washer pump is working, there is a kink in the tubing in the boot lid, which is a common issue with these models. Additionally, there are some minor stone chips on the front, as photographed in the full disclosure section, which are to be expected given the mileage and age of the vehicle. Otherwise, the paintwork presents in very good condition
