About this specific vehicle
1999 Nissan 200SX Touring - Silvia S14A
Specific Vehicle Details:
The Nissan Silvia is from a time when the automotive world wasn't bombarded with crossover SUVs. Its presence was crucial, as it proved that one didn't need to look for an ultra-high-performance machine to have fun behind the wheel. The Silvia name soldiered on from the mid-60s to early noughties, through a handful of generations with an unchanged formula: a strong engine in an extremely capable chassis, at a pocket-friendly price, especially the later generations: S13, S14, and S15. Sprinkled on top was a mix of great looks, an ability to tune the car to the absolute max, and, of prime importance here, rear-wheel drive. In the nineties, Nissan introduced the S14 generation of the car, which was more accommodating than before, looked more purposeful, and with an turbocharged 2-litre four-cylinder engine (or SR20DET), there was no lack of power. A stock output 200 bhp doesn't sound bad now, and it definitely didn't back in the nineties!
We're privileged to bring to you a well-cared-for example of the S14, or the Nissan 200SX, which is what these things were officially called here in the UK. Given the brilliant handling package, but also the ability to produce tangible improvements when tuned, many Silvias have turned into track-focussed weapons, and stock examples are becoming increasingly rare. Fortunately, this S14 has been spared from all that. Completely stock, it's effectively a single-former-keeper car, since it was first registered by the Nissan dealer, followed by a long, meticulous ownership. And since it's an S14 Touring, it comes with added creature comforts, including a CD changer. Thoroughly original, it's done only 59,370 miles and comes with a full service history. In auction descriptions, you'd frequently come across terms like once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, etc., but more often than not, it's a loosely used phrase. But not entirely with this car, which owing to its condition and low use, is quite non-replicable.
Service History:
The 200SX was launched in the UK in the mid-90s, and an updated model was launched shortly afterwards, thereby renewing the car largely with fresh looks and some changes underneath — mainly to the turbo. This 1999 example was first registered with the official Nissan dealer (Geyfords) and was soon purchased by the car's first keeper, who took utmost care of it for the next 23 years or so. Throughout this, the car was periodically serviced, even for those years when it did a mere 600 miles in total.
Complete with a detailed service history, this S14 was serviced in 2021 at 57,636 miles. It has a valid MoT from January this year, which it cleared with any advisories. In fact, according to the DVLA data, it's cleared all its MoTs without fail.
Full Disclosure:
The long ownership under someone fixated on keeping the car in top shape has enabled this Nissan 200SX to exist in the kind of appreciable state we wish other modern classics could enjoy too. But at the same time, even for limited mileage, the car has seen regular use, which means it has never been left unattended. In said long ownership, the car was garaged, a detail that's evident from its overall condition.
In saying this, you'd expect regular use and age to take their toll on the car, but it's evidently fresh with only some minute deviations. Still on its original dealer plates (pretty sure there are car nerds among us that appreciate that sort of thing — there's a neat sticker on the rear window too), this S14 also retains the original stereo and even alloy wheels, adds the current keeper.
The bodywork is devoid of damage except for minor scratches and stone chips. The clean-looking cabin inside is also all original. The driver seat shows signs of use-related wear while the rear seats look straight out of the factory. Touring spec gives this 200SX features like a CD changer and leather seats, both of which will be appreciated by the new owner. As far as the condition is concerned, this 200SX's dependence on hard-wearing plastic has borne fruit: the cabin looks neat and even the touch points don't look overused. Like the rest of the cabin, the boot is clean, retaining originality and an unquestionably large amount of appeal — and a spare wheel with some tools, along with the CD changer. It's a party under the bonnet, too, with the sight of a low mileage, untouched SR20DET engine sitting there in all its glory, filling the bay nearly completely.
Those looking for an appreciating modern classic that offers a detailed history, low mileage, and the ability to enjoy worry-free fun motoring, all roads lead to cars like this 200SX. If there's one thing that a car like this deserves, apart from someone who'd treat it with utmost love (like its previous keepers), it has to be some more use. Bet getting out for a drive now and again wouldn't take much persuasion, either!
