General Description
Lamborghini’s highly regarded ‘SV’ title received its second seen use on the formidable Diablo, some 25 years after use on the Miura. Standing for 'Super Veloce', the translation to English was simply meaning ‘Super Speed’.
Offering an enhanced driving experience, the Diablo SV was first introduced in 1995 and showcased a 5.7-litre V12 which produced a staggering 510 bhp along with 580 nm of torque. This power meant that the SV was capable of sprinting to 62 mph from standstill in just 3.9 seconds, running to a top speed of 191 mph. The SVs benefitted from roof mounted air-scoops which featured on the revised engine lid, helping that V12 breathe in a more efficient manner.
Three years into the production of the Diablo SV, 1998 saw a heavily revised iteration come to market which improved the car over the previous years. The most important change was the addition of ‘Variable Valve Timing’, which essentially gave way to more power, with the engine now rated 20 bhp higher with thanks to different camshaft profiles. This change was mainly implemented to reduce emissions, meaning that the Diablo SV was then able to go on sale in the USA, a huge commercial benefit to the marque.
The revision in the power department meant that the top speed was now also heightened to 208 mph. Stopping from quicker speeds also saw revisions in the brakes with larger front brakes, meaning that the wheels also increased in diameter to 18 inches, additionally added was ABS to further assist the braking ability of the car.
