About this specific vehicle
That it was the last air-cooled 911 might be the usual conversation around the 993, especially on the World Wide Web, but that's just one (albeit very important) facet of this brilliant machine. The 993 was available for a brief period between the 964 and 996, with the latter steering the Porsche 911 in a completely new direction. Powering the 993 for the Carrera model was a 3.6-litre flat-six engine which made under 300 PS, with all the power going to the rear wheels through either a manual gearbox or an optional automatic. The model line wasn't as expansive as the 911 of today but there was a choice between naturally aspirated and turbocharged engines; coupe, convertible or even a hard-top targa; standard and wide body versions; and for those looking at ultimate thrills from their 993: the lightweight Carrera RS or even a super-performance-focussed GT2. But regardless of the model one chose, the 993 became a great way to enjoy the old-school orchestra of the air-cooled engine. Some say that the cabriolet was an ever more immersive experience, as far as aural performance goes...
We're thrilled to offer an impressive example of the Porsche 911 Carrera (993) Cabriolet with a complete service history, a recent MoT, and just 50,199 miles on the clock. The seller mentions that the outstanding condition of the car was even appreciated by Porsche who offered it under the brand's Approved banner. In terms of condition, which can be verified through the multitude of photos in the gallery, the car is presented rather well. It has a Zenith blue exterior with a matching dark blue soft top. The interior is specced in a mix of grey and black, which does look soothing to the eyes. The atmospheric photos do show how well the car sits, especially with its standard body displaying innate beauty without making an effort.
Service History:
First registered in August 1997, this Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet has had 5+ owners. Its entire service history has been carefully documented, which furthers its appeal. The details of this car’s service history can be found under the Full Disclosure section above. Its induction in the Porsche Approved Used programme says a lot about the car's condition, mentions the seller. The car has seen limited use, which is also reflected in the MoT history.
Full Disclosure:
For a car to sustain the test of time is one thing, but it's still not an everyday occurrence, examples like this one. On the inside, the interior is well-kept with fairly minimal wear. The seats do show some age (only at the front, the rear ones appear to be unused); the aftermarket Kenwood radio might sit well with the dashboard but it's younger than the car; and the buttons and knobs are largely free from wear. The bodywork is clean and devoid of any major damage, the paintwork isn't affected, either. There are some use-related marks, minute chips, a little scratch on the windscreen, and a patch on the soft top, but nothing that detracts from the car's aura. The engine bay looks good, too, and it even has some of the stickers intact.
Small issues with the car have also been rectified within the term of the current owner. The roof is now fully operational, and the health of the battery is strong. The seller has also stated that the car will come with a full health inspection by a specialist before the new owner takes ownership. In addition, the car comes with a custom car cover, which will be provided as part of the sale.
The 993 is a car that deserves more attention from the classic 911 market not just because of its air-cooled engine (the last of its kind in the 911) but also because of how well-rounded a car it was. This example with a convertible roof and automatic gearbox offers the chance to enjoy what is definitely one of the finest Porsche 911s ever.
