The 1980s was no doubt an era of excess, whether it was music, fashion or cars - especially those tuned by Koenig. Founded by German publishing tycoon-turned-racer, Willy Koenig in 1974 after reportedly being underwhelmed by the performance of his Ferrari 365 BB, he turned his hand to enhancing the performance and aesthetics of many automotive brands but most famously Porsche and Ferrari.
The Porsche 928 was born out of a requirement for a range-topping Grand Tourer. By the late 1960s, Porsche 911 sales had begun to stagnate and it was therefore time to introduce a slice of luxury to Stuttgart’s line-up. The 928 achieved just that and despite it being a front-engine V8, it still achieves a near perfect 50 / 50 weight distribution.
This particular Porsche 928 was first supplied to the Japanese market in 1990, and was converted by Koenig in-period. Changes include a bespoke widebody, boasting wider rear fenders to accommodate the BBS wheels, Koenig Special Exhaust, updated suspension, custom clusters and steering wheel. The vehicle is also supplied with an authentic Koenig Special certificate complete with VIN. There is also a plaque inside the car identifying it as Koenig special.
Finished in slate grey with a black leather interior, the car presents exceptionally well both inside and out, with its odometer showing 31,000 miles at time of listing.
The interior displays minimal wear and tear and the vendor reports that all buttons and switchgear work as they should.
There are 2 previous owners and the vendor has now owned this vehicle for 3 years.
The last service was undertaken in November 2024 and the car has been in dry storage ever-since.
