General Description
Making championship-winning cars was Lancia's favourite pastime, and it is no surprise that the Italian company's illustrious past is filled with stories, trophies, and cars that egged you to drive hard — and win. But at the same time, the entry barrier into the world of Lancias isn't small, either.
Collectable cars are usually out of reach for many, and modern Lancias just don't cut it. Plus what if you wanted a Lancia not just as a showpiece for the drive, but also to take part in historic racing or rallying? In that case, will a competition-spec Fulvia interest you?
About this specific vehicle
This Lancia Fulvia boasts a long list of high-standard inclusions which make it apt for historic competitions, including a 1600 engine. Its history is full of active participation in classic car events including Vernesca Silver Flag, Brighton Speed Trials, and even a podium finish in the 2022 edition of Manx Classic. It was turned to rally spec in 2017 and maintained regularly by the current keeper's in-house mechanic. The competition-ready car can be a great choice for those who have a hankering for classic racing but don't want to build one from scratch. Plus if they had a pageant, the Fulvia would receive top honours, and this one's not too different — it only has a few blemishes.
Service History:
Before being added to the current keeper's collection, this Fulvia was modified to exploit the 1600 engine's capabilities to the fullest, more details on which are mentioned below. In terms of servicing, the seller mentions that the Fulvia undergoes an annual service as part of the routine, but a thorough checkup & prep is undertaken prior to every event. Under the current ownership, all the repairs and improvements are carried out by a mechanic. Recent updates include gasket replacements for the engine after being stripped for a check. The gearbox too underwent the same routine and was refurbished putting it back.
When new, the Lancia Fulvia was way ahead of its time, for it offered a slightly unconventional route to fast-paced, enjoyable motoring. A front-wheel car with a V4 engine, the Fulvia was appreciated by critics for its handling prowess. It became a milestone with success in rallying, and before Lancia could create history with cars like the Delta, Stratos, or the 037, it was the Fulvia that got the Italian carmaker its WRC title.
In terms of condition, while there are some dents, the car has no major sightings of rust except for surface rust where the paint is missing, adds the seller. It's a Fulvia HF body (steel construction with aluminium bonnet, boot, and doors) registered as a Rallye HF but it has a 1600 engine. Fittingly, the current keeper of this Fulvia changed it to rally spec in 2017. While due to lack of time, they couldn't participate in historic rallies, the Fulvia did enter hillclimb events.
One of the previous keepers took the 1600 engine and added twin Weber 45 carbs, work-spec cams, Arrow conrods, a balanced crank, Mangoletsi intake manifold and carburettor linkage, and a Group 4 manifold and free-flow exhaust. On the inside, it now has two Recaro seats, fire extinguishers, and a stripped cabin.
No garage queen, this Lancia Fulvia pretty much encompasses what cars are made for — to drive! And in this case, that would be hopefully with a dab on the throttle and the steering on its lock stop, as it leaves a cloud of dust and the spectators in awe...
