General Description

Within the Porsche 911 world there are a number of 911s that enthusiasts crave, from the 2010 Porsche 911 (997) GT3 RS 4.0, the 1967 Porsche 911 S and the 1995 Porsche 911 (993) GT2. But a 911 that is very much a member of this club is the 1973 Porsche 911 2.7 RS.

The Porsche 911 2.7 RS, like so many of these special cars, was born out of a need to compete at the front on the track. Porsche needed a more competitive car for Group 4 and, using the 2.4 S as a starting point, the Porsche engineers got to working creating their raced focused streetcar. The engine capacity was increased to 2.7 litres as well improvements made to the suspension, anti-roll bars, control arms and cross-members.

Inside Porsche, there was a fear that the car would not sell, with the Porsche sales manager believing that selling 10 cars would be tough. However, over 1,500 cars were sold, with the majority sold being Touring spec cars, totalling 1,308 units. In addition, 200 Lightweight cars were sold, which had lighter panels and less creature comforts. The main visual differences between the two are the use of a sticker instead of a crest on the bonnet for the lightweight and the absence of rubber from the bumpers as well.

There are many iconic and coveted 911s, but it could be argued that the 2.7 RS is the most coveted of them all.

About this specific vehicle

The car that Specialist Cars Kingswinford are proud to offer for auction a Porsche 911 2.7 RS Restomod. The basis for this restomod was a 1979 Porsche 911 3.0 SC. The car was totally stripped, rebuilt and improved upon by Porsche specialists Club Autosport.

The engine was stripped checked and vapour blasted, before being totally rebuilt with a number of new and improved components. This includes new main bearings, piston rings and intermediate shaft bearings just to name a few. The gearbox was also stripped and vapour blasted, with the synchros, dog teeth and gear linkage bushes all being replaced. In addition, a new flywheel and clutch assembly have been installed. Improvements have also been made to the chassis and suspension. The car now has new Bilstein front legs and rear shock absorbers, front and rear wheel bearings and new brake discs, pads and callipers.

The body has seen been stripped and new panels have been installed, to help give it that 2.7 RS look. This includes a long bonnet, F Model front wings, 2.7 RS front and rear bumpers and seals and a 2.7 RS ducktail. The car has been resprayed in white and the iconic decals have been added in blue. Inside, the changes continue. New bucket seats have been added, as well as a Momo protipo steering wheel and vintage look DAB Radio/CD and door 3-way speakers.

Today, this presents as a fantastic example, displaying 155,120 miles from new but only covering 200 miles since it was totally rebuilt, with all new parts listed below.
