About this specific vehicle
Specific Vehicle Description:
Jaguar is looking at an all-electric future from 2025 onwards, but it's quite likely that for decades — no, make that centuries — to come, they'll be remembered for the brand's glorious past. And the E-Type can quite rightly take a lot of credit for that. Not only one of the most graceful cars to be brought out from Browns Lane, it still manages to catch many an enthusiast's fancy, proving that even automotive design can indeed be timeless. Although, unsurprisingly, prices for the E-Type have been soaring, which means the struggle to find and own a good example keeps getting difficult for buyers. But obviously, it's not entirely gone 'unobtanium' yet, the E-Type, and there indeed are cars which can be bought and enjoyed for way less than the kind of money that say early Series 1s command. Available on Carhuna, through our partners at Scottish Motor Services, is a 1970 Jaguar E-Type 4.2, which proves that one might need not empty their life savings to realise the dream of owning one. The car, a Series 2, comes with an extensively detailed history file, which according to the seller, covers every expense that's been made on it over the last 50 years. If that wasn't enough, there's also the supplied paperwork, which is bound to only further its appeal. Apart from the owner's manual, this Willow Green example is accompanied by its JDHT certificate, confirming the car's authenticity.
Service History:
According to the seller, the car was sold to a squadron leader, who kept it for 25 years,
meticulously maintaining it and equally fastidiously documenting its service routines. Now with the seventh keeper, the car only has 43894 miles on the clock. It comes with a full-service history, covering everything that's been done to it in order to maintain its top shape, in the last 50+ years. Its age makes it MoT-exempt, but it must also be noted that out of the 16 tests since 2006, it cleared 13 without any trouble, including the latest in 2017.
Full Disclosure:
With that kind of mileage, it's pretty clear that this Series 2 Jaguar E-Type has been used minimally: the MoT history suggests an average of about 500 miles a year. In terms of condition, the Willow Green bodywork is a thing to behold. The Series 2 is more practical than before, but many prefer the earlier iteration's looks, but none of that should stop you from liking it. Everything from the chrome trim and wire wheels, to even the paintwork itself, looks fresh. Under the bonnet, the glorious 4.2 straight-six sits proudly but the engine bay does show the car's age to some extent, which we think is normal. The 2+2 green leather interior looks thoroughly refreshed and well-kept. The scooped-out floor ensures that even the taller drivers won't struggle in the E-Type as they would've in the earliest of the models. And the presence of rear seats is bound to bump up its practicality quotient. But more importantly, it's the dashboard, which looks a balanced mix of modern and classic. In terms of quality, there's not much to fault here, and the modern Panasonic radio doesn't look out of place at first sight. Upon close inspection, the seats have only the slightest of signs of use, and nearly everything else looks surprisingly (for its age) fresh. The combination of the more useable (than before) 4.2-litre straight-six engine, which made about 250 bhp, and Jaguar's robust 4-speed gearbox is another reason why a car like this deserves to be considered. In addition to that, there's the 2+2 functionality and the solid condition that seems second to none. And all of that at a price which seems pretty hard to beat...
